What is “good” about it?

On “Good” Friday

we commemorate the

darkest day

and stumble through the

valley of the shadow of death

on wobbly legs

fasting for crumbs of justice.

Or maybe we walk blithely the path

forgetting that even Jesus felt

God-forsaken.

Why tune our hearts to

the painful key

when our mouths already

hold the bitter taste of

fear and disillusionment?

Were you there when

they crucified my Lord?

If we dared

to walk in Jesus’ sandals

for an hour or two

we would feel

betrayal

gut-gripping fear

humiliation
and devastating loss

torture and

abandonment.

Maybe at least

we could notice that someone

in our world is experiencing

all that

today?
