Cold

We imagine

even believe

that we can control

what happens.

Yes, it’s our job

and our joy

to make meaning

in our hours  by

working hard

and well:

creating and sharing beauty

building  relationships through

service together  where needed

using our minds to

bring good change.

But the cold sometimes

will move in

freeze over and stop

what we’d planned.

And then it’s best

to remember

that we don’t

always get to choose

what happens.

That’s not only okay.

It’s good for us.

  1. Mom used to twinkle a bit when she shared her beloved “10th Beatitude”:

    Blessed are the flexible,
for they shall not be bent out of shape.
