Happy House

We can wish

upon a million stars;

pray without ceasing

read tarot and the constellations;

purchase insurance for

all conceivable emergencies, but

we will not walk

through life

without pain and sorrow.

Distress and loss

will at times leap out

and surprise us.

The question is this:

in the midst of the walk through

the valley of the shadow of death

can we notice the subtle change of light

from late summer to fall?

Can we stop and listen to the

quiet in the purple-orange darkness

before dawn?

Can we round the corner

and be delighted

by the happy yellow house?
