Dazzling Darkness

It’s a popular notion:

“Live in the moment.”

But how do you live

fully–

how to be yourself– and

embrace each

moment

when you have good reason to believe

that your lifetime is drawing to a close,

much sooner

than later?

What fears arise?

what lossregretslovesthoughtsthingshopescares   stay

with you and what sloughs off

as the days sometimes flash past

and other days crawl by with agonizing

difficulty?

Four hundred years ago a poet wrote:

“There is in God, some say,

A deep but dazzling darkness” *

so
what if
in what we can’t control
and in all that we fear losing
in the darkness of unknowing
what if there is indeed a dazzling
Love
steady and unwavering
as the sunrise and sunset
but even more brilliant?
