Insomnia

It is the loneliest time,

even if you are

blessed with your loved one

by your side.

It is the inky darkness

of  freshest morning:

too late for the night owls

to stir

and too early for the

joggers.

Every sound is magnified

and seems threatening;

the cold air is frigid.

Your mind is busy

turning thoughts into worries.

You ache with

awareness that

what you cling to

will slip away.

It is the nature

of change.

It’s simply the next chapter

of the story we live.
