Hanging On

Springing into freedom,

climbing with monkey-abandon

and feeling fearless

scampering up trees and

scaling  the wall

comes naturally to some.

Even for those

who must

work harder to climb up,

the reward at the top

of the mountain

is a gratifying view from above

and satisfaction from


For most of us,

as we grow,

we accumulate mass

we get heavier

with each passing month

and year.

And then

scaling up

the steep wall becomes

a greater challenge.

We are lifting up

the heaviness

of experience.

We may feel

rubbery legs

and our arms trembling

as we inch


Climb anyway.

The views

are worth it.
